Obama has always been in the news, his charisma, eloquence and diligent election campaign set a new precedence for United States leaders and the “American Dream”. But now that the grandeur has died down the public seem to feel somewhat different about him. Will the President do what he promised to accomplish?
Lately Obama has had a few people publicly not support him. At Obama’s address on health care reform on September ninth, Republican Representative of South Carolina Joe Wilson burst out “You Lie,” at the President in response to the administrations illegal alien policies. Wilson has since apologized for the incident. But in that moment wasn’t he simply expressing the feelings of some Americans today?
Good things take time but it seems that the whole country is extremely anxious for the change that was promised, to come.
“During Obama’s campaign it appeared that he would bring about a ton of change. But now he’s losing popularity because he isn’t changing as much as everyone thought he would,” said junior Greta Konkler.
It’s true that Obama has now had one of the sharpest slumps in popularity ratings of any U.S. president.
“People expected change to come immediately when Obama was inaugurated, but that’s not at all how it works, so some people are becoming discouraged,” said Sydoney Blackmore.
If good things come to those who wait perhaps all the President needs is a little more time, considering the magnitude and amount of problems he is anticipated to tackle, the task seems daunting.
“Obama really is doing a good job. He has to deal with all of the problems let behind by previous presidents. His popularity has been waning lately, with all the economic issues, but bad things would’ve happened regardless of who was in office. He is doing the best he can with the cards he’s been dealt,” said Junior Rachel Alworth.
Judging is always easier to do when not in the persons shoes, and though the economic situation is dire, not much else can be done but wait and hope that things will get better. Very few of us could do a better job than what currently being done.
