Stitch by stitch, I worked my needles and yarn together at Duluth East’s Knitting Club Thursday, October 1. The club takes place every Thursday after school in Mrs. Gullicks’s classroom. There is a wide variety of people that attend, from beginners to masters. Despite the name, Knitting Club is also very welcoming to crocheters.
As I knitted, I listened to the conversations happening around me. The hot topic of the day was Knitting Club clothing options. The knitters debated and concluded that there would be options of a t-shirt, sweatshirt, or sweat pants. It was also decided that anyone could submit designs for the three clothing items and they would later be voted on.
It was apparent that the knitting club is a close knit group.
“It(Knitting Club) is a nice little family. Everyone is comfortable there and it’s a really nice end to a day,” said sophomore Madeline Jefferson.
There were many people present in the club. However, less than half had projects with them. It is a common sight to go to Knitting Club and see people just sitting around and talking, which also adds to the club’s all inclusive factor. Any person looking for a safe place to hang out after school can come be a member for the day.
