Gary L Holt, 47, died at home Sunday, Oct.
Gary L Holt, 47, died at home Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009 after a heroic two and a half year battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born in Kankakee, Ill., on Oct. 27, 1961.
Gary graduated from Superior Senior High School in 1979, and received a Bachelors degree from the College of St. Scholastica. He served in the U.S. Army for twelve years, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant; serving abroad in Belgium and Portugal. Gary was a valued employee of WDIO TV since 1992. He was the Supervisor of Technical Operations, IT. He enjoyed being with his family, and was an avid outdoorsman who liked hunting, fishing, shooting and camping. Gary was an amateur HAM Radio operator, call sign AA0SI since 1979. He also enjoyed woodworking, computer programming, volleyball and softball. Gary was a gentle, kind-hearted and intelligent man who faced any challenge head on. Gary will be remembered as a loving father, husband and friend.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Charles Hilliker.
Gary is survived by his wife Susan; son, Benjamin; children, Dorothea (Kevin) Bahr, Jonathon, Deborah, Steven, Elisabeth; three grandchildren, Isaac, Emma, Ethan; mother Marcia (Melvin) Sarvela; grandmother, Dorothea Hilliker; in-laws, Frank and Shirley Sayovitz, Steve (Janice), Braeden and Raeanna Sayovitz, Jim (Jill), Kali, Kayla, and Kyle Sayovitz; many treasured aunts, uncles, extended family and friends.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009 at the Cremation Society, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth, 624-5200. There will be a gathering of friends and family one hour prior to service, Deacon Dennis Anderson officiating.
