Waterfront areas posted for bacteria

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has posted “No Water Contact Recommended” signs on some area beaches.

Heavy rain running off the landscape combined with waves riling up sediment probably contributed to high bacteria levels at several area beaches.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has posted “No Water Contact Recommended” signs on the beaches of the French River, Leif Erikson Park, New Duluth Boat Club at 14th Avenue on Park Point and the Sky Harbor airport parking lot, and the Clyde Avenue public landing on the St. Louis River in West Duluth.

The PCA tested waters Wednesday and results today showed the elevated bacteria levels that could cause people to become sick if they swallowed water. The beaches were retested today and results will be posted Friday. For more information, go to www.mnbeaches.org.
