Summer Movie Preview

By: Sam Minor, The Spartan Spin

This summer is packed full to the brim with what look like great movies. The summer season began May 1 for the movie industry, which puts it a good portion through the season.

Just by looking at a list of the big blockbusters this summer, one can see that there are many very big sequels coming out. “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” although it was more of a prequel, arrived that first weekend in May. Also, “Terminator: Salvation” and “Night at the Museum: Battle for the Smithsonian” debuted last month. “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince” and “Transformers the Revenge of the Fallen” are both arriving in mid July. These last two movies are expected to be two of the biggest films of the summer.

Sequels will definitely not dominate the summer though. “Star Trek” was the first to release and shows this, with “Angels and Demons” following it the next week. The biggest movie release possibly of the summer so far is “Up.” “Up” is receiving a lot of hype on the national and local levels. It has some tough competition, however, with Johnny Deep and Christian Bale’s “Public Enemies,” which releases July 1.

From big sequels to big animation hits, this summer has a movie for everyone all summer long.
