On May 21, the teachers of East attended a party just for them- the Teacher Appreciation Breakfast hosted by the National Honor Society.
“”Since the NHS is academically oriented, it fits well with the mission of the group to do this for the teachers,” NHS advisor Mr. Garnett said.
A tradition that had changed NHS advisors and generations of teachers, the banquet included food from Valentini’s and music by the Sterling Strings.
“We chose the music at the end of last year, and memorized it over the summer,” junior Rachel Slack said.
Among the melodies like “Cancan” and “Take Five”, East teachers, walked past a hallway of cheering NHS members, and finally got their dues.
“It’s not often that teachers are recognized for their hard work and we appreciate it when we are,” Mrs. Florestano said.
There are also many memories associated with this occasion.
“I tried to come even when I wasn’t the advisor [for NHS], but sometimes I would forget and wonder why there were all these cars here. And then I would remember that it was [Teacher Appreciation] Breakfast,” Mr. Garnett said.
The music’s lively beats also sparked some stories.
“I remember that one year, some teachers danced during breakfast,” Mrs. Florestano said.
Thus, East began its day with a 7 o’clock party and made sure that those who made this school incredible year after year weren’t forgotten.
