There are many theories out there as to how and why Northlanders put up with some of the most inclement weather in the nation — we’re crazy, we’re stupid or we’re crazy and stupid, to name a few — but the answer is simple: It’s fun! (Tragic fatalities and crushed Volvos notwithstanding, of course.)
More than that, a monster blizzard brings out something special in the communities it buries.
Duluthians, in particular, really show their heart during these trying times — and nowhere is this more evident than downtown.
Out on assignment Tuesday, a handful of individuals offered me advice on the best ways to get home, expressed out-and-out elation for all of the white stuff and, more often than not, just wished me luck on my “mission.”
I must’ve looked pretty silly with my camera under my coat, taking pictures wherever I could find a little shelter, but the residents of this fair city are far too nice to tell me I should probably be using my energy to do something productive — like shovel off the High Bridge....
