A&E FYI: Grandma’s Sports Garden to host Young Talent ShowcaseJamestown Story and Cities Never Sleep are coming back to Canal Park, and they'll be joined by other “up and comers” in the Minnesota music industry.
Six bands showcasing young Minnesota musicians of various styles and genres will perform at Grandma’s Sports Garden at 6 p.m. Jan. 29. This unique show features some true “up and comers” in the Minnesota music industry, many being right from our area:
First Class Failure is a couple of Hermantown graduates playing acoustic/pop/folk originals. They most recently played The Encounter on New Year’s Eve.
Mikey Talented is another group of local boys who have formed a foursome to play original/ska/reggae tunes. They have recently released a CD that will be available at the show.
Take Cover is a group of five young Twin City rockers. Their high-energy performance of fast-paced pop/punk always raises the roof. They just recently released an EP that will be available at the show. Don’t miss one of their rare Duluth appearances.
Fight the Odds is an alternative rock group, with an alternative sound all their own. This group is made up of five of the area’s finest musicians, all from the Twin Ports.
Jamestown Story has been a Minnesota favorite for a couple of years. Jamestown Story held the title of “most popular unsigned band” on the entire MySpace universe. Jamestown Story is a single performer, Dane Schmidt, telling his musical journey through captivating pop/rock tunes and lyrics in an acoustical style.
Cities Never Sleep is a breakout group of area musicians has joined together from various bands to create their own refreshing blend of pop, rock, and dance music. A club favorite because of their upbeat style and fast, catchy tunes. They all hail from Duluth and are planning a Midwest spring tour to bring their sound to a larger audience.
The Minnesota Music Young Talent Showcase is an all ages show and unique opportunity for all to see what’s happening on the music scene. Tickets available at the Sports Garden or from any of the performing bands. Cost is $6 advance/$7 at the door.
