Elizabeth Gertrude Butchart, 96, of Duluth, passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009.
She was born Jan. 6, 1912 in Duluth to Edward and Inga Dalsey.
Elizabeth graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1929. She worked for the Land and Tax Department of Minnesota Power and Light for seven years after graduation. Elizabeth was united in marriage to Donald H. Butchart in 1937. Donald joined the family business, A. Butchart's and Sons where he worked for 30 years. Elizabeth and Donald lived in Lakeside most of their lives. Elizabeth lived at Lesterwood Apartments for 11 years before moving to St. Ann's Residence and then the Benedictine Health Care Center in November of 2008.
She was a longtime member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church where she served as secretary for three pastors. Elizabeth was a member and past president of Chapter BR of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Gardening and caring for her flowers was always a joy. She was an active member of Lakeside Garden Club where she cared for the neighborhood garden plot for the club.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents, Edward and Inga Dalsey; and her sister, Louise Durand.
She is survived by her son, Jerry (Barbara) Butchart of Duluth; her daughter, Gwen (Ken) Schloer of Cloquet; four grandchildren, Steve (Emily) Butchart, Jodi (Tom) Murphy, Dean (Angela) Schloer, and Brad Jacobson; six great-grandchildren; one niece and several nephews.
VISITATION: 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2009 until the 2 p.m. memorial service in Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Duluth, followed with time of fellowship in the church social hall. Spring inurnment service will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Lakeside Presbyterian Church.
