Woman killed in broadside crash in Cass County

PINE RIVER, Minn. -- A 21-year-old Backus woman was killed Thursday morning in a two-vehicle broadside crash in Cass County, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.

The victim, Caitlyn E. Daudt, was a passenger in one of the vehicles.

Ryan M. Kline, 30, of Pine River, was driving a Toyota Tacoma east on 24th Street Southwest in Pine River when the pickup struck a Chevrolet Cavalier broadside about 6:30 a.m. as the car was southbound on 16th Avenue Southwest. The Cavalier’s driver, Sandre K. Strausser, 50, of Backus, had failed to yield in the right of way, the patrol said.

Daudt was a passenger in Strausser's vehicle. The patrol reported that she was Strausser's daughter.

Strausser was transported to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, Minn., where she was listed in serious condition. Kline was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd and released.
