Virginia "Ginny" Louise Plets, 92, Iron River, formerly of Duluth and Meadowlands, Minn., passed away Monday, May 5, 2014 at her family residence in Iron River.

Ginny was born March 25, 1922 in Duluth, the daughter of Simon Oscar and Esther (Hagloff) Runell.

Ginny graduated from Duluth Central High School and was united in marriage to Homer J. Plets on Dec. 27, 1941. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who enjoyed her family near and far. She was also a business partner with her husband of 44 years in various endeavors including grocery and feed stores; boarding home, beverage distribution in Lakewood and Meadowlands, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Homer Joseph Plets; one son, Richard Valere Plets; five sisters, Alma Olson, Agnes Swanson, Alice Runell, Lillian Taklo, and Julia Carlson; two brothers, Evald Runell and Alfred Runell.

Survivors include daughters, Cheryl (Dennis) VanHove, Iron River, and Julianne (Earl) Sorvari, Hermantown; sons, James (Susan) Plets, Payson, Ariz.,and Bradley (Kelly) Plets, Altoona, Wis.; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; Sister-in-law, Mary Dulinski, Duluth; nieces and nephews.
