Viola Eleanor Jakubek, 90 of Duluth, died peacefully after having a stroke on Saturday, March 22, 2014 in Essentia St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.

Viola was born to Adolph and Millie Holmes in Duluth.

She grew up on South Lake Avenue where the Canal Park Lodge is located now. Her grandmother immigrated from Finland and opened a large boarding house, where Viola worked until the start of World War II. She worked at a few manufacturing companies one of which she ran a drill press for the war effort.

Viola was a homemaker and a mother while raising her children. She went back to work as a housekeeper at Miller Dwan for several years and finished her working career at St. Scholastica until her retirement.

Viola found joy in the everyday little things and events of life that many people can take for granted.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; her sister, Lorraine and her brother, Arnold.

Survivors include her daughters, Joy Aus and Susan Jakubek both of Duluth; her granddaughter, Lisa (Scott) Williams of Duluth; her great grandchildren, Alaina, Erica and Scott, Jr.; her sister, Gloria (Mike) Parendo of Duluth.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014 in the Dougherty Funeral Home Chapel, 600 E. 2nd Street, Duluth, MN.
