Grand Rapids-based Lake Country Power reported nearly 3,000 customers without electricity at times on Thursday morning; that number was down to less than 1,300 by late afternoon. There were several dozen separate outages scattered across Aitkin, Itasca, Lake and St. Louis counties, including in the Big Sandy Lake, Hill City, Side Lake, Winton and Twig areas.

Lake Country Power reported that its crews were working to repair downed lines and some broken utility poles.

West-northwest winds gusted to 47 mph at the Duluth airport on Thursday, with gusts of 45 mph reported at Hibbing and Cloquet.

Storms that moved across the region starting late Wednesday and continuing Thursday brought in excess of 3 inches of rain to parts of the Northland, particularly in areas well north and west of Duluth. The National Weather Service has issued flood advisories through early Friday morning for two areas:

Central Itasca County, including Deer River and Marcell, until 3 a.m. Friday. Law enforcement reported water covering some secondary roads.

Northern Koochiching and northwestern St. Louis counties, including International Falls, Littlefork and Kabetogama, until 2:45 a.m. Friday. Law enforcement reported water covering part of County Highway 217 east of Littlefork, and localized flooding in International Falls.

After a cool, gray day on Thursday, expect sunshine and highs in the 70s on Friday.
