Two people were injured in a collision between a U.S. Postal Service van and a sport-utility vehicle Thursday morning in Duluth’s Endion neighborhood.

Duluth police reported that officers were called to the scene just after 9:30 a.m.; an initial investigation indicated that the Postal Service employee, a 63-year-old man, was traveling uphill on 19th Avenue East and failed to stop at the stop sign. The van was hit by an SUV traveling west on First Street, and ended up on its side.

The driver of the Postal Service van and the driver of the SUV, a 29-year-old woman, both were transported to Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the van was cited for failure to stop.

Postal Service officials were at the scene to secure and collect the mail which had scattered around the inside of the van and fallen out of the vehicle’s broken windows.
