Two canoeists rescued after becoming stranded on St. Louis River
Two canoeists stranded on the St. Louis River east of Hoyt Lakes were found Wednesday night suffering from exposure but generally OK, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The county’s volunteer rescue squad and Hoyt Lakes Fire Department members responded to a call at 9 p.m. about two overdue canoeists who had been paddling from a lake in Bassett Township, about 12 miles east of Hoyt Lakes. The pair, from the Zim area, were found stranded in the middle of the river. They said their canoe struck a rock and had become partially submerged.
The two were treated for exposure at a medical facility in Aurora and released.
