Twins trade Willingham to Royals
The Minnesota Twins traded outfielder/designated hitter Josh Willingham to the Kansas City Royals for minor league right-handed pitcher Jason Adam on Monday.
Willingham, 35, is hitting .210 with 12 home runs and a .345 on-base percentage in 68 games with the Twins. He hit 35 homers with 110 RBIs in 2012, his first season with the Twins.
The Royals will pick up approximately $1.8 million of Willingham’s contract for the remainder of the season.
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Adam, 23, was recently promoted to Class AAA Omaha.
