Thomas W. Korenchen, Age 85 of Duluth died July 19, 2014 due to mesothelioma.

Tom was born on Nov. 9, 1928 in Aurora, Minn. He graduated from Aurora schools and attended UMD, earning a B.S. degree. Tom was employed in the mining industry before starting his career as an insurance adjuster. Upon retirement, he worked the next 20 years as the gambling manager at West Duluth American Legion Post 71. He was forced to retire again due to ill health. Tom served in the Army and was stationed in Italy during World War II. He was a longtime member of the American Legion chorus, enjoyed dancing and traveling.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, John and Francis Korenchen; his wife Marguerite (Peggy); son Paul; and eight siblings.

He is survived by his daughters Mary Balistreri of Scottsdale, Ariz and Rita Raudman (Robert) of Duluth; daughter-in-law Gayle Korenchen; three granddaughters Abby, Haley and Stacy; and longtime loving partner DeeDee (Doris) DeGaetano; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 2-4 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2014 in the American Legion Post 71 in Duluth, with Honor Guard ceremony at 4:00 pm.
