College men's hockey: Bulldogs heading to Frozen Four following 3-2 OT win over Boston University



Thomas S. Karich, 87, died at home in Aurora, Ill., on March 22, 2014.

He was born in Duluth on May 19, 1926.

Thomas graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1944. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from UMD in 1949 where upon he taught math and coached basketball for six years at Mooseheart School in Mooseheart, Ill. For 28 years he taught at Jefferson Middle School, Aurora, Ill. He also taught math at night school at Aurora University. He was also a referee at high school and college football and basketball games for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; and a son, David.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; a son, Steve (Barbara); daughters, Margaret "Peg" Ghering and Susan "Sue" Karich; a brother, Milan (Helen) of Arizona; a sister, Anna Mae Lowenstein of Richfield, Minn.; seven grandchildren.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE: will be held on June 14, 2014 in Aurora, Ill.
