Sara Mason (top) of Ordean East Middle School and Rose Anne Sauve of Hermantown Middle School received the Apollo Gilruth Continuum Award for academic excellence from the Duluth Aviation Institute on March 29 as the top Path to Aviation Centennial students.

The Duluth Aviation Institute along with the Ordean East and Hermantown Middle School science teachers presented 11 lessons in aviation science this past semester. Mason and Sauve excelled in all classroom activities, extra credit projects, 11 plane quizzes and the post-test. The top 15 percent of students who excelled throughout the program were rewarded with a Young Eagles Flight from Sky Harbor Airport on March 29.
