Stanley W. Sheldon, 94, of Duluth, died on Saturday, June 14, in his apartment at Aftenro Home.

Stanley was born Jan. 20, 1920 in Lincoln, Neb.

He moved to Minnesota with his parents Lynn and Gertrude Sheldon.

He was a graduate of the School of Agriculture, University of Minnesota.

On June 5, 1940 he married Bernice A. Meinen. Stan and Bernice farmed near Spring Valley, Minn., until his induction into the Army. He served in the South Pacific with the 542nd Amphibious Engineers.

Following the war, Stanley and Bernice moved to Duluth where he was employed by the Oliver Iron Mining Company for 32 years in the Land and Timber Department. He retired from USX in 1981 and he and Bernice spent many wonderful years traveling around the United States.

He was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, most recently Lakeside Presbyterian Church of Duluth.

Stan is survived by two loving daughters, LaDean (Herbert) Walbert, Helena, Mont., and Patricia (Bruce) Lundgren of Duluth; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

He was dearly loved, and will be greatly missed.

The family deeply appreciates the special care and love he received from the staff of Aftenro Home. It will never be forgotten.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 in Lakeside Presbyterian Church, 4430 McCulloch Street, Duluth, family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church. Services entrusted to Cremation Society of Minnesota, 624-5200.
