College football: Minnesota Duluth junior Andrew Brees is among 36 college kickers who have made the watch list for the 2014 Fred Mitchell Award for excellence in football and the community. Among the nominees are seven from the Football Championship Subdivision, 12 apiece from the NCAA Division II and III ranks, three from NAIA schools and two from junior colleges. Twelve former college and NFL kickers are on the selection committee for the award, which includes a scholarship. It will be presented in February. Brees, of West Allis, Wis., connected on 10 of 15 field goals last fall, including going 2-for-2 from 40 yards and out. He also volunteered with Courage Center Duluth while helping with the annual Duluth Lions Club Pancake Day and ALS Blizzard Tour.
