High school football:The Proctor Football Booster Club is hosting the Hylla 5K and Green and White Mile on Aug. 16 during the annual Hoghead festival. The mile race starts at 8 a.m., with the 5K beginning at 9. There will be awards for top finishers, as well as for participants dressed in the best green and white gear. Before Aug. 1, the entry fee for the 5K is $20, and $15 for the mile. After Aug. 1, those prices increase to $25 and $20, respectively. Race-day registration starts at 7 at the Proctor Area Community Center, 100 S. College men’s basketball:The 2013-14 St. Scholastica men’s basketball team was recognized for its academic excellence by the National Association of Basketball Coaches on Wednesday. In order to qualify, a team’s cumulative grade-point average has to be 3.0 or better. The Saints’ was 3.10.
College track and field:The men’s and women’s track teams at Minnesota Duluth have earned Division II All-Academic honors from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Likewise, the men’s and women’s teams at St. Scholastica earned the same distinction for Division III. To qualify, a team had to possess a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better.
