RUSSELL J. "COACH" NYQUIST

Russell J. "Coach" Nyquist, 85, of Duluth, died peacefully Friday, May 9, 2014 with his daughters by his side.

He was born April 6, 1929, in Duluth, to Axel and Ellen Nyquist.

Rus worked at the D.M. &I..R. Railroad for 38 years, retiring as a Conductor in 1989. He served in the Korean War with the U.S. Army (Corps of Engineers). Rus enjoyed playing softball in his younger years and bowled throughout his life. He shared his knowledge of these sports and was a great coach to many.

Rus was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; son, Mike; granddaughter, Tara Castellini; parents, Axel and Ellen; a sister, June Huber and brother, Wes.

He is survived by his daughters, Lori Castellini and Mary Nyquist; grandchildren, Mary Castellini, Emily Hayes, Dan Hayes; brother, Mitch; and several nieces and nephews.

GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. memorial service Saturday, May 17, in Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave., 624-5200.
