Russel D. Myrdal, 83, of Duluth, passed away on May 4, 2014 at Bayshore Health Center.

Russ was born in Duluth on Oct. 30, 1930 to John and Violet Myrdal.

He attended schools at Clover Valley. Fishing was his passion and he fished commercially aboard his boat, the Strand. He also worked on the ore boats. He worked in the DM&IR roundhouse at Two Harbors until it closed. Russ enjoyed competing in several sports. He boxed in amateur fights in Duluth. He also ran the Boston Marathon along with several other races.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother William and a baby sister.

Russ is survived by daughters Julie (Butch) Sievert, Nicole Myrdal and Stacy Arneson and his son Neal (Laurie) Myrdal; his friend and former wife Elaine Myrdal; other survivors include niece Cindy Gregorieff; nine grandchildren and several cousins.
