Rita (Gelting) Forrest, 83, of Brooklyn Center, Minn., formerly of Duluth, passed away Friday April 4, 2014. Beloved mother and grandmother.

Rita was born in Milwaukee, Wis., and grew up in Deer River, Minn.

In 1951 she graduated from the College of St. Scholastica with a degree in nursing. She worked as an RN at St. Marys and the Duluth Clinic until retirement in 1996.

She was a longtime member of St. Michaels Catholic Church and loved spending time with her family, taking trips up the North Shore, reading, scrapbooking, cooking and playing games of all kinds. Rarely could anyone best her in a game of Scrabble.

Preceded in death by parents, Henry and Pearl Gelting; brother, James; and infant son, James Philip.

Survived by son, Steven of Wrangell Alaska; daughters, Lynda (Roland) Small, Laurel, and Lisbeth, all of the Twin Cities area; grandchildren, Allison and Abigail Small, Alex Ptaszynski, and Ellee Voltz Forrest; special cousins and many dear friends.

VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 in St. Michaels Catholic Church, 4901 E Superior St, Duluth.
