Reader's view: Powwow promoted sense of peace and understanding
Boozhoo (“Hello”). The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa held a powwow for veterans that I attended. I’m not a Native American, but they made me feel very welcome. They deserve a sincere miigwetch (“thanks”). They treat all ogichidaa (“veterans”) with great respect and honor.
The public was welcome to attend and those that did saw an extraordinary show of Native American dancers and singers in traditional dress. Being a Vietnam veteran, I felt a sense of peace and understanding. Their display of patriotism made me feel my service to preserve peace was not wasted.
