Prep report: McDonald to coach all-stars tonight at UMD

Bob McDonald, Alex Illikainen and Kory Deadrick headline tonight’s Border Battle all-star series at Minnesota Duluth’s Romano Gymnasium.


Presented by the Duluth Amateur Youth Basketball Association, the Border Battle includes players from Northeastern Minnesota against those from north central Wisconsin. The Minnesota girls take on the Wisconsin girls at 6 p.m., followed by the boys game.

McDonald will coach the Minnesota boys team with his youngest son, Hibbing coach Joel McDonald. The Chisholm icon retired recently after 59 seasons, 1,012 victories and three state titles. He will be honored during a brief presentation at halftime of the boys game.

Tickets, good for both contests, are $6 for students and senior citizens, $8 for adults. They are available at the door.

Deadrick shines at Polar League All-Star game

Kory Deadrick made six 3-pointers en route to a game-high 26 points to lift the light jerseys to a 124-111 victory in the Polar League All-Star boys game Monday night in Two Harbors.

69-66 win.
