Prep Report: Grand Rapids freshman no-hits Cloquet
Duluth Minnesota 424 W. First St. 55802

The freshman struck out three in seven innings and allowed just one baserunner — Cloquet’s Brandon Conklin, who walked with two outs in the fourth inning — in pushing Grand Rapids to its seventh consecutive win.

Bowman helped his cause with an RBI.

Ely 14, Cherry 4

The host Timberwolves remained undefeated with a five-inning victory over the Tigers.

Elliot Omerza led the way with three hits and three RBIs as Ely, which scored eight runs in the fifth inning, improved to 13-0.

SOFTBALL

Duluth Denfeld 3, Cloquet 1

Ashley Taipale’s two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning snapped a 1-1 tie and gave the Hunters at least a share of the Lake Superior     Conference title.

Taipale also earned the pitching win for Denfeld (13-4), which loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth but couldn’t score.

Superior 1, Proctor 0

Brandie Goldberg struck out 13 and allowed just four hits in pitching the Spartans to the home win
