U.S. curlers strike gold: Duluth Curling Club team wins Olympic gold medal



Paul Merice "Mike" Hudgens, 83, of Duluth, said good-bye to his loving family Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, while at his home.

He was born Jan. 17, 1931 in Sparta, Tenn., to Sam and Mattie Hudgens.

Paul was a veteran on the U.S. Army, having served in Germany and proudly defending his country serving in Vietnam. While serving in Germany, Paul met and married his wife, Edda-Helene Zachan.

After leaving the military they moved to Duluth and he started his career as an electrical engineer at WDIO-TV, until he retired.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Edda; his loving son, Mike (Tami Soderholm-McKean) Hudgens, of Duluth; a grandson, Andrew Michael Stanhope of Arkansas; a sister, Inez Strawn of Texas; his little fuzzy friend, Gibson "Gippy"; many loving relatives and friends.

GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. memorial service Thursday, Aug. 7, in Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave., 624-5200.
