New arrival helps Huskies to narrow win
Newcomer Austin Darby had three hits, scored two runs and drove in two more to lead the Duluth Huskies past the host St. Cloud Rox 5-4 in a Northwoods League baseball game Friday night before 1,903 at Joe Faber Field.
Darby, a left fielder from the University of Nebraska, raised his batting average to .438 since joining the Huskies four games ago by going 3-for-4.
Duluth (8-8 in second half) scored three runs in the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie and added another run in the top of the seventh for a 5-2 lead. The Rox (9-9) narrowed the gap on Will Craig’s two-run home run in the eighth, but Huskies reliever Bo Hellquist of Minnesota Duluth shut them down 1-2-3 in the ninth to earn the save.
Starting pitcher Austin Christensen earned his first win in three decisions this season as he allowed six hits and two runs in six innings.
The Huskies continue their road trip with a two-game series at Alexandria, starting at 7:05 p.m. today.
