Nashwauk man arrested after allegedly stealing two cars, crashing one in Grand Rapids
Duluth Minnesota 424 W. First St. 55802

An 18-year-old Nashwauk man was arrested by Grand Rapids police early Tuesday, after allegedly ditching one stolen automobile for another.

Dokotah Gunderson was charged with two counts of motor vehicle theft, driving under the influence and other traffic violations after police responded at 5:15 a.m. to the Itasca County Fairgrounds, where a neighboring resident had reported a person driving erratically on a bike trail before crashing a vehicle into some trees.

The witness, as well as a person camping, told police they saw Gunderson flee on foot off Old Soldiers Lane. Police then observed Gunderson come out in another vehicle at a high rate of speed. He was pulled over and arrested.

The car Gunderson allegedly crashed had been reported stolen in Nashwauk, said Grand Rapids Police Chief James Denny. The car he was pulled over in was a stolen vehicle as well.
