Muriel Marie Policka, 89, died Thursday, May 15, 2014.

She was born in St. Paul and attended Woodrow Wilson High School and Mills College of Arts and Advertising. She worked for the Greene Engraving Company in St. Paul and came to Duluth in 1948 when she married Lucas. She worked in the art department at the Duluth News Tribune for 16 years, retiring in 1986.

Muriel was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, secretary of the Duluth Heights Garden Club for many years, the auxiliary of the Disabled American Veterans Unit 6 and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Muriel was an excellent gardener, talented artist and loved sewing, knitting, birds and traveling. One of her great joys was to have driven a team of sled dogs.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Lucas in 1999 who she cared for tirelessly through a long illness. She deeply missed her parents, Gladys and Joseph Reisinger; brothers, Robert and Joel and nephew, Terry Reisinger.

She is survived by her son, Ted Policka; daughter, Jeanne; her sister-in-law, Evelyn Reisinger; niece, Maggie (John) Tackman; and nephew, John (Kathy) Reisinger.

A special thank you to Reggie Phillips, her chemo partner, for taking her to all the doctor appointments.

VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Funeral Service on Monday, May 19, in the Jarvi Dowd Funeral Home, 925 E. 4th Street, Duluth. Burial will take place at the Forest Hill Cemetery. Please leave a memory of Muriel or words of support for the family at
