Merle Haggard plays Oct. 4 at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center – in between gigs at Norsk Hostfest in Minot, N.D., and Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake, Minn.

Haggard has been part of the country western – specifically the outlaw country scene – since the mid-1960s, when he earned a chart-topper with “I’m a Lonesome Fugitive.” He is in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Haggard played Symphony Hall in 2004 and a News Tribune reviewer called it “classic Haggard.” The prolific artist performed a mix of classic hits and new material during the no-nonsense show that didn’t include an opening act or an encore.

“Haggard is authentic at a time when not much else in the industry is,” the reviewer said.

Ticket info TBA.

Fortune Bay Casino announced that Goo Goo Dolls and Daughtry will perform on Aug. 8, a show that is being billed as the venue’s biggest show to date.

Plain White T’s will join the lineup with an acoustic set.

Tickets go on sale Thursday at fortunebay.com or by calling (800)992-7529.

Goo Goo Dolls’ biggest hits include “Name,” “Slide" and "Iris.” Daughtry is fronted by “American Idol” alum Chris Daughtry and has had hits with “Waiting for Superman,” “It’s not Over,” “No Surprise” and “Home.”

Plain White T’s were nominated for Grammy Awards for the song “Hey There Delilah.”
