Rebecca Surmont and Steve Jewell, both of Minneapolis, were married June 21 in a neighborhood park on a bridge overlooking Minnehaha Creek in South Minneapolis.
Her parents are Eugene and Barbara Surmont of Vassar, Mich. His parents are the late Phillip Jewell and Melba Rossley.
The bride, a 1988 graduate of Vassar High School, graduated from the University of Toledo, Ohio, in 2004 and from Adler Graduate School of Minneapolis in 2011 with master degrees in English and organizational development. She is an independent business consultant and voice talent in Minneapolis.
The groom, a 1976 graduate of Duluth Denfeld High School, graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in psychology and from Michigan State University in East Lansing in 1983 with a master's degree in human resources. He is employed by SRF Consulting Group, a transportation planning and design consulting firm.
How it all came to be
We were introduced over a morning "networking coffee" at a local Caribou July 26, 2009. Four years to the day, I arranged a surprise engagement event at the same coffee house with guests, a musical band and KARE11 news coverage. As a recruiter, I never found her a job, except to be my wife!
