Marie C. Burggraff, 96, of Carlton and formerly of Cloquet, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014 in Inter-Faith Care Center, Carlton.
She was born in 1917 in Cloquet, the daughter of Henry and Mary Burggraff.
Marie attended Cloquet High School and St. Scholastica and then began her journey as an Oblate at St. Benedict Monastery but had to return home to care for her parents.
She was employed at Diamond Match for a number of years until she retired in 1983. From 1988 2000, Marie was a volunteer driver for the Sisters at St. Scholastica. She lived in and enjoyed gardening at her home until 2011 when she moved to Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton.
Marie was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Cloquet. She was a former member of the Foresters and Daughters of Isabella.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Zegan, Agnes Goad and Sister Rebecca Burggraff and brothers, Hank, Tony, Benny and Ernie Burggraff.
Marie is survived by her sister, Berniece Paulson of Cloquet; her caregiver and niece, Marce (Blaine) Pearson of Carlton, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to offer their heart-felt appreciation to the staff of Inter-Faith Care Center for the care to Marie.
VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Memorial Mass, Monday, Sept. 8, 2014 in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Cloquet. Interment will be at Old Calvary Cemetery, Cloquet.
