Man struck head while jumping from rocks into water
Another accident occurred today at a section of Amity Creek known locally as "the Deeps." At about 12:15 p.m. authorities were notified that a young man had hit his head on a rock while jumping into the water at the popular Lester Park swimming hole.
The identity and age of the injured party were not immediately available. The individual reportedly jumped from a height of a bout 30 feet and struck the back of his head on a rock ledge, according to Assistant Fire Chief Erik Simonson. The man did not lose consciousness and got out of the water on his own power. But he did suffer a laceration to the back of his head and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
Sunday's accident was the third of the year at the Deeps. In July, a 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were injured in separate events while jumping from rocks into the river below.
