Man set on fire in Minnesota home, allegedly by landlord, dies from injuries
A man set on fire in an Andover, Minn., home, allegedly by his now-jailed landlord, died Thursday, authorities said.
The man, identified as Scott D. Yorek, 55, suffered critical burns Tuesday night in the home on the 1300 block of 137th Lane NW., according to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office. He died shortly before 2 a.m. at Hennepin County Medical Center, said Sheriff’s Cmdr. Paul Sommer.
The 29-year-old suspect was arrested within hours many miles to the north in St. Louis County and could be charged as soon as Thursday, a spokeswoman for the county attorney’s office said.
Authorities have yet to comment on what prompted the conflict but described it as a dispute between a landlord and a tenant.
"The victim had allegedly been doused with an accelerant and purposely set on fire," the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Wednesday.
Deputies had gone to the home earlier Tuesday concerning a dispute between the two but left once the parties agreed "to separate for the evening," the Sheriff’s Office said.
The suspect’s criminal history in Minnesota includes convictions for theft and property damage, disorderly conduct, underage drinking and illicit drugs.
