Hanson wins at Proctor Speedway
Shane Sabraski of Rice, Minn., brought three cars to Proctor and was able to come away with a hard-fought Modified feature win. Darrell Nelson of Hermantown, who swept the Late Model and Modified features on Friday night in Superior, had to settle for third and second, respectively, at Proctor. Scott Lawrence of Superior (Super Stocks), Danny Vang of Brainerd, Minn., (Midwest Modifieds), and Lucas Carlson of Cloquet (Pure Stocks) were Sunday’s other feature winners.
Dukes split with Lumberjacks
The Duluth Dukes edged the Ashland Lumberjacks 6-5 but then fell 5-4 in the eight-inning rematch on Sunday in an Upper 13 League doubleheader in Ashland.
Jack Nikko threw all seven innings of the opener, allowing four earned runs on seven hits to get the win. Tim Nylund was 3-for-3 and Corey Pavlich was 2-for-4 with four RBIs for the Dukes. Mark Arbuckle was 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Ashland.
Matt Hulmer’s single in the bottom of the eighth scored Dave Barningham to lift the Lumberjacks in the second game. Barningham had led off the inning with a double. Hulmer was 3-for-3 to lead the Lumberjacks (2-6 Upper 13). Evan Scherber was 3-for-5 to lead Duluth (8-12 overall, 6-2 Upper 13). Jimmy Merling added two hits and has 31 on the season, breaking the Dukes (formerly Padres) club record of 30, set by Bob Eastman in 2011.
