Superior’s Sislo inks extension with Devils

Superior’s Mike Sislo on Thursday signed a contract extension with the New Jersey Devils.

The 26-year-old forward signed a two-year, two-way contract that will keep him a member of the Devils organization through the 2015-16 season, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Although he was held pointless in 14 NHL games last season, Sislo enjoyed a breakout campaign as an assistant captain in his third season with the Albany Devils, finishing with 41 points, including 23 goals in 59 games. He also had two assists in four playoff games for Albany.

Sislo made his NHL debut on Jan. 3, against Chicago and played 14 games over three stints in Newark.

Xpress rout Dukes

The Duluth Xpress defeated the Duluth Dukes 13-1 in an Arrowhead League game Wednesday at Morrie Arnovich Memorial Field in Superior. The game was called after seven innings due to the 10-run rule.

Winning pitcher Joel Wuorio allowed one unearned run on two hits and no walks with five strikeouts in five innings. Wuorio retired the first 12 batters he faced.

Ray Feigal, Justin Smith and Jon Kusch led the Xpress with three hits apiece. Feigal scored three runs and Kusch, a Duluth Central graduate, had three RBIs. D. J. Lahti also contributed three RBIs.
