North Shore team takes third at state

No. 1-seeded North Shore lost 17-15 to Minnetonka in the semifinals. Second-seeded Edina won the title with a 46-7 win over Minnetonka.

UMD opens with Notre Dame, Minnesota
Minnesota Duluth hasn’t joined NCAA Division I in men’s basketball, but the Bulldogs’ 2014-15 exhibition schedule sure looks that way.UMD, which released its schedule Tuesday, opens with a pair of road exhibitions against Notre Dame on Oct. 29 and National Invitation Tournament champion Minnesota on Nov. 6 before tipping off the regular season Nov. 14 against Lincoln (Mo.) University in the Southwest Baptist Tournament.The Bulldogs’ home opener is vs. Division III Wisconsin-Superior on Nov. 18 and the team’s Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opener is Nov. 29 at St. Cloud State.UMD expects to field four seniors, four junior transfers and an experienced sophomore class for the 2014-15 season. Included among the returnees is 2013-14 NSIC preseason player of the year Brett Ervin, who sat out the entire year with a knee injury.
Northland duo finishes thirdNorma O’Leary, golfing out of Ridgeview Country Club, and Northland Country Club’s Sue Liberty finished third at the Minnesota Women’s Golf Association Senior Four-Ball Tournament on Tuesday at Northland.O’Leary and Liberty teamed to shoot a 154 for 36 holes, 16 shots off the pace of champions Claudia Pilot (Pines at Grandview) and Brenda Williams (Windsong Farm). Leigh Klasse and Mary Hoisser of Keller Golf Club were second with a 148.
