The Mustangs won the opener 5-0 behind Mitch Wurm’s three-hit shutout and a pair of home runs off Bulldogs starter Ryan Lakin.

UMD (7-15 overall, 3-9 NSIC) led 3-0 in the nightcap before the Mustangs (12-12), 3-5) had a bases-loaded walk themselves and a three-run triple by Patrick     Rients to take a 4-3 lead in the fifth. Austin Stubbs’ RBI double increased the lead to two runs, but Grant Farley and Matt Vogt doubled in runs in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively, and a pair of walks secured the win.

UMD is slated to open its home season this weekend against Augustana College, though weather and field conditions will determine where the games are played.

UWS, Oshkosh split pair

First baseman Sam Holden was 4-for-5 with four RBIs to lead Wisconsin-Superior to a 10-1 victory over Wisconsin-Oshkosh and a split of the teams’ Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series Monday in Oshkosh.

The Yellowjackets (9-6 overall, 1-3 WIAC) scored seven runs in the seventh inning with the help of two errors, while pitchers Damian Wiblin and Graham Miller combined on a seven-hitter and eight strikeouts. Outfielder Wyatt Soderquist added three RBIs.

The Titans (10-6, 3-3) won the opener 11-1 in seven innings as Travis Sindles tossed a five-hitter and struck out nine and all nine batters had at least one hit. Trent Whitcomb and Bobby Kachel had two RBIs apiece.
