Judge says Line 3 should go forward along old route



Lillian Victoria Grandell, 96, of Hermantown passed away on Monday April 28, 2014.

She was born in Barrett, Minn., on March 12, 1918 to Karl Gustave and Alma Caroline Unger.

She was united in marriage to Gustave Adolph Grandell on June 26, 1948. Lillian graduated from Kelliher High School, and Bemidji State Teachers College. She began her teaching career in a one room school house near the Canadian border in Baudette, Minn., and also in Graceton, Minn., and in Williams, Minn., before moving to Duluth and teaching 4th/5th grade at Morgan Park Elementary. She later taught at Ordean Jr. High School as a Special Education Tutor, and she taught Sunday School for many years at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Lillian was a born teacher, playing school with her younger siblings as a child, enjoying her formal teaching career and teaching us kindness, courage, patience, grace, love, faith and tolerance by example as a loving wife and mother.

Lillian was preceded in death by her husband Gustave Adolph; and siblings Carl William Unger, and Irene Marion Lampi.

Lillian is survived by children DeAnna (Ronald) Leino, and Venus deMars/Steven (Lynnette Reini-Grandell PhD) Grandell; grandchildren James and Jennie Leino; and many much loved nieces and nephews.
