Leonard Norman Ojala died July 18, 2014 in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth.

He was born to Jennie and Arvo Ojala on Dec. 4, 1925 in Hibbing, Minn. He graduated from Superior Central High School in 1943 and joined the Navy at the age of 17. He served in the Navy until 1946 and earned two years of college credits for his military training. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Superior, in 1948. He married Norma Kari on June 19, 1948. He devoted his working life to educating students first at Orr high school from 1948 - 1952, then as principal and teacher at Cherry High School from 1952 - 1966, then as a professor in secondary education at the University of Minnesota Duluth from 1966 - 1985. He retired and moved to Angora Minnesota where he enjoyed life there as he did every summer at Lake Vermilion.

He was a member of the Mesaba Unitarian Universalist Church in Virginia, Veterans for Peace, ACLU of Minnesota, and the Lake Vermilion Sportsmen's Club.

He is survived by wife Norma; children, Linda, Tom and Annette; and sister Sharon Ojala Olson.

FUNERAL SERVICE: At his request, there will be no funeral service and his family will have a private celebration of his life at a later date.
