James Thomas Elmer Sr., 79, of Cloquet, passed away unexpectedly, April 22, 2014 at home.

He was born in Cloquet on March 15, 1935 to Robert and Bertha (Rock) Elmer.

A military veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Essex CVA-9 from 1958-66.

Jim enjoyed the outdoors, going for walks with his beloved dog Meg who died in 2012, snowmobiling and spending time with friends, family and his partner Jessica.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents; sister Delores (Liz) Westerham; brothers Father Phil and Donald Elmer.

Jim is survived by special friend and partner of 11 years, Jessica Lee of Carlton; sons James Elmer Jr and Joseph Nahgahnub of Cloquet, Steve (Cathy) Elmer of Esko; daughter Lindsay (Richard) Huber of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; sisters Betty (Bob) Hanson of Minneapolis, Marge (David) Golen of Cloquet; grandchildren Holly, Emily and Jack, Matthew Elmer, Liam Morris; plus nieces and nephews.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday May 10, 2014 at Big Lake Golf Course, 780 Cary Rd, Cloquet. Fellowship to follow.
