Investigation continues on St. Louis County derailment
Work crews were on- site Tuesday morning clearing wreckage and conducting an investigation of a 50-car Canadian National Railway train derailment that took place about 6:30 p.m. Monday in Fairbanks, in eastern St. Louis County, about 30 miles north of Two Harbors, according to a CN spokesman.
Two locomotives derailed with 116 cars total. It was en route from the Iron Range loaded with iron ore pellets bound for Two Harbors. No hazardous materials were involved, and no serious injuries were reported. However two engineers on the train were taken by private vehicle to a local hospital to be evaluated.
"CN crews are on scene this morning to begin cleanup of cars and iron ore pellets," said CN spokesman Patrick Waldron. "CN will also conduct a full investigation into the cause of Monday night's incident."
