Honkers rally secures win over Huskies
The Rochester Honkers rallied twice Thursday night to defeat Duluth 8-5 in Northwoods League baseball action before 1,471 fans at Mayo Field in Rochester, Minn.
Corey Hassel knocked the second pitch from Huskies reliever Kevin Folman over the fence for a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning to secure the victory.
The Huskies (1-1 in second half) started brightly with a three-run opening inning, keyed by Alex Michaels’ two-run single. But the Honkers (1-1) chipped away with a pair of runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to take the lead.
Single runs in the sixth and seventh vaulted Duluth back in front before reliever Chris Myjak loaded the bases in the eighth and Hermantown’s Folman allowed Hassel’s game-winner.
Jeff Campbell earned the win with two scoreless innings in relief.
The Huskies open their second-half home schedule against Alexandria at 5:05 p.m. today.
