Motorists traveling on Highway 53 near Ash River in St. Louis County may encounter areas where the pavement has settled slightly due to heavy rain earlier this summer, according to transportation officials.
The heavy rain also caused mudslides in the area earlier this month.
Minnesota Department of Transportation engineers and maintenance staff monitor the three locations daily and are working with foundations specialists to develop permanent repairs.
MnDOT will request Emergency Federal Funds for the repairs and expects the repairs will be made in fall 2014. MnDOT is urging motorists to be attentive, drive with caution and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
