Heat advisory in effect for parts of Northland; severe storms possible tonight
A heat advisory is in effect for parts of the Northland - Pine, Aitkin, southern Itasca, Burnett, Cass and Crow Wing counties - today as hot, humid air pushes into the region.
High temperatures may reach 90 degrees in the advisory area, with heat indices near 100, the National Weather Service reported.
Elsewhere in the Northland, including the Twin Ports, conditions may not reach advisory levels today but it's still forecast to be hot. High temperatures are forecast to reach the mid- to upper 80s in Duluth, with heat index values in the mid-90s.
In the wake of today's hot weather, strong to severe thunderstorms are possible tonight. A large complex of thunderstorms is forecast to develop to the west this evening and sweep across the Northland. Damaging winds and very heavy rain will be the main threats from any severe storms that develop.
