Harriet Joyce Nelson Wahl passed away peacefully on Feb. 19, 2014, in Stanton, Calif.

She was born Jan. 3, 1931 to Thure and Aribie Nelson in Hinckley, Minn.

The family later moved to Mahtowa, Minn., where Joyce attended Park Lake school, Mahtowa school, and Barnum High School.

Joyce married Eugene J. Wahl in Minneapolis, in 1953. They had three sons. Their first two sons, Jeff and Greg were born in the cities before their move, in 1956, to Southern California where their youngest son, Jay, was born. Joyce's hobbies included photography, painting, arts & crafts, and interior design. She loved to travel and was fortunate to travel to such places as Europe, Australia, and Africa. Africa was, by far, her favorite destination. Upon returning home from Africa, her family room soon became the "Africa Room." Missing family and friends in Minnesota, Joyce bought a home in Barnum, Minn., spending summer, fall and a winter or two there. She brought her "Africa Room" to Barnum where she decorated the family room with the photographs she had taken along with other memorablia she collected. She hosted many parties and reunions in her beautiful home.

Joyce was blessed with two grandchildren and two great-grandchilidren.

She is preceded in death by her twin brother, Harold Nelson, of Carlton, Minn., and her sister Shirley Peterson, of Mahtowa, Minn.

She is survived by sisters, Marie Thompson, of Ely, Minn., Barbara Kelly of Little Canada, Minn.; and brother, Richard Nelson, of Barnum, Minn.

Joyce was laid to rest at Fairhaven Memorial Park, Santa Ana, Calif., on March 8, 2014.
