George H. Lawien, lifetime resident of Duluth, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at the Benedictine Health Center, after a short illness.

He was born in Duluth to Walter and Frances Lawien.

He was a graduate of East High School. George spent his career in facility management and maintenance, retiring as a Director/Co-ordinator. His entire working career was devoted to helping troubled youth and persons suffering from addictions.

George was a member of First Lutheran Church and a past board member of the Community Action Board, where he served in several positions. He was also a member of the Duluth Chamber of Commerce.

George enjoyed spending time with his family and had a passion for golf.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eleanor Moulton; and brothers, Walter Lawien and Clarence Lawien.

George is survived by his sisters, Kathleen Lawien of Duluth, Mary (Gary) Bolander of Texas and Joyce McQuaig of Georgia; many nieces, nephews and extended family members; special friends, Terry, Rick, Cindy and her children, Nick, Dan and Bailey.
